Obsidian Entertainment's satirical sci-fi RPG, released October 29 2025 on Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen and Nanite. Performance characteristics line up with most UE5 open-zone titles — software Lumen is the default, with hardware ray tracing as a heavy optional toggle.
How demanding is The Outer Worlds 2?
The Outer Worlds 2 ships with Unreal Engine 5's software Lumen GI enabled by default; hardware ray tracing for shadows, reflections and lighting is optional and noticeably more expensive on both CPU and GPU. Upscaling covers DLSS 4, AMD FSR 4 and Intel XeSS 2, plus UE5's own TSR. Loading dense colony zones is where frame times stretch most.
What GPU do you need for The Outer Worlds 2?
At 1080p with hardware RT off our estimates put the RTX 5070 or Radeon RX 9070 XT around 60 FPS; 1440p comfortably clears 60 on an RTX 5070 Ti or 9070 XT. Native 4K above 60 FPS realistically needs an RTX 5090, or DLSS 4 Quality on an RTX 5080. With hardware RT enabled, drop one resolution tier or lean on Multi Frame Generation.
