Estimated frames per second (FPS)
Tested at Ultra High Settings
id Software's medieval prequel in the DOOM Slayer arc, released May 15 2025 on the all-new id Tech 8 engine. Ray-traced global illumination is mandatory — there is no rasterised fallback — and a June 2025 update added full Path Tracing on PC. It is the most aggressive RT-mandatory title shipped to date.
How demanding is DOOM: The Dark Ages?
id Tech 8 makes ray-traced global illumination a required feature at every preset; PC versions also include ray-traced reflections and, since June 2025, full Path Tracing. The engine supports DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and DLSS Ray Reconstruction. Even with mandatory RT, id's optimization keeps frame times tight — id Tech 8 is one of the most efficient RT implementations available.
What GPU do you need for DOOM: The Dark Ages?
Our estimates put the RTX 5070 or Radeon RX 9070 XT comfortably above 100 FPS at 1080p; the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT clears 80 FPS at 1440p. Native 4K above 60 FPS realistically needs an RTX 5080 or RTX 5090. For Path Tracing, plan around DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. Pair an EMARQUE gaming PC with a high-refresh panel for the full id Tech 8 cadence.
