Sandfall Interactive's turn-based RPG, released April 24 2025 on Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen and Nanite. Expedition 33 became one of 2025's surprise breakout hits — eight million copies in the first year — and built almost entirely in UE5 Blueprints by a 30-person studio.
How demanding is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
Expedition 33 uses Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen and Nanite, and ships with DLSS, AMD FSR and Intel XeSS upscaling. The combat encounters are tightly framed and authored rather than open-zone, which keeps streaming light. Lumen GI in stylised painterly environments and high-fidelity character close-ups are the main GPU costs.
What GPU do you need for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
Our estimates suggest the RTX 5070 or Radeon RX 9070 XT comfortably clears 80 FPS at 1080p; the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT clears 55 FPS at 1440p. Native 4K above 60 FPS lands on the RTX 5070 Ti and above; the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 push past 50 FPS at 4K. For a turn-based RPG, frame rate matters less than image quality — DLSS Quality is the right default.
